England batter Joe Root narrowly missed the opportunity to surpass Rahul Dravid on the all-time list of highest Test run-scorers during the third Test against India at Lord’s. On Day 4, Root was dismissed for 40 runs, falling 30 short of passing the Indian legend Rahul Dravid to get the 4th highest run getter in Test Cricket at Loard's.
In the 2nd session, Root was bowled around his legs by Washington Sundar. Trying to sweep a sharp delivery, he exposed his stumps and was clean bowled. His innings came off 96 balls and included one boundary. Root’s dismissal also ended a steady 67-run stand with Ben Stokes.
Root remains 5th on the all-time Test run charts with 13,259 runs in 156 games and 285 innings. He averages 50.80 and has scored 37 centuries and 66 half-centuries, with a top score of 262. Dravid, just above him, has 13,288 runs at 52.31, with 36 centuries and a best of 270.
Sachin Tendulkar leads the all-time Test run-scorers list with 15,921 runs, followed by Ricky Ponting in second place and Jacques Kallis in third. In this series, Root has been consistent, scoring 253 runs in six innings at an average of over 50, including a century and a fifty.
Earlier in the day, England resumed at 2/0. Mohammed Siraj made an early impact by removing Ben Duckett for 12. He followed it up by dismissing Ollie Pope for just 4, reducing England to 42/2.
Root and Crawley attempted to stabilize the innings, but Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed Crawley for 22.. Harry Brook came in and played an aggressive cameo of 23 from 17 balls before Akash Deep bowled him. That brought Stokes and Root together.
Sundar then broke through with Root’s wicket and followed up by bowling Jamie Smith for 8.England headed into the tea break at 175/6, with Ben Stokes unbeaten on 27 and Chris Woakes on 8, holding a lead of 175 runs.
Earlier, India equaled England’s first-innings score of 387, powered by a century from KL Rahul and a solid 72-run knock by Ravindra Jadeja.
